Tourist Information
Cambridge House is a mere 50 minutes from Hobart, on the A6 passing through Huonville then onto Geeveston. Continue 300 metres past the BP service station & we're just over the bridge on the right.
Geeveston has become known as "Tasmania's Forest Town" & one of it's attractions are the life size timber statues of local identities featured about the town. Artists galleries & restaurants also feature in a town that has all the facilities a visitor could require.
A half hour drive takes you to the famous Tahune Airwalk & Hartz Mountains National Park where there are gorgeous walks, waterfalls, lookouts & spectacular views to Federation Peak & the South West Wilderness. Also within a quick drive are the Hastings Caves & it's thermal pool & the fully operational Ida Bay Historic Railway.
Continuing south you'll pass Tasmania's salmon farms out in the Southern Ocean. There are breathtaking beaches & stunning scenery all the way to the end of the road at Cockle Creek, which is as far south as you can drive in Australia. See the bronze whale sculpture here at the starting point of some wonderful walks which range from a couple of hours to several days.
Wild, spectacular & beautiful Bruny Island is also within easy reach of Cambridge House & accessed by a quick ferry trip from Kettering. As well as scenic attractions both Bruny Is. & the Huon Valley abound with things to see & do, from exhilarating boat rides & hang gliding to golf, fly fishing, kayaking & bowls. But be sure to visit some of the many wineries, galleries, antique shops, gardens, orchards, the sheep cheesery, the timber craft places & some of the many cafes & restaurants that make the most of the abundant & varied local produce & seafood.
Your hosts Karen & Glen have all the local knowledge & can advise you on how to occupy many, many days in the region depending on your interests.
